Design a cover for the refreshed book, “What on Earth Am I Here For? The Purpose Driven Life” by author Rick Warren
The creative challenge here is to provide a fresh look-and-feel to a NYT bestselling book currently celebrating its 10th anniversary while maintaining a visual connection to the current product. The image of the tree and its roots is a key visual metaphor and should be strongly considered when building the design.
Also the main title will now have a first read of "WHAT ON EARTH AM I HERE FOR?" whereas it was the sub-title in the original book. Caution needs to be exercised here. The world knows this product as "THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE." So you will need to think through exactly how the relationship between title and sub-title will play out in the final design.
It's also important to note that the purpose of this redesign to make it more relevant and interesting to a younger audience.

The "Purpose Driven Life" is a brand of products by best-selling author and pastor, Rick Warren. The winning cover will direct the branding exercise of the entire line of products which may include additional books in both print and ebook format, church and small group curricula, and mobile apps.
VERY IMPORTANT—THE BRAND IMAGE:
The existing "Purpose Driven Life" cover centers on the image of a tree. This image is the brand icon that we will continue to use. Key parts of the tree that MUST be incorporated into the brand image are the roots as it ties into the content of the book.
The title ("What on Earth Am I Here For?") is rebrand from the previous title, "Purpose Driven Life". Since the subtitle of "What on Earth Am I Here For?" is "Purpose Driven Life," the placement and design should honor this heritage.
We are open to the experimentation of the dynamic of how the title and subtitle are presented for reading.
