Timberwind
Hi there!
Thanks for taking the time to review our posting. We're a young company looking for an iconic wordmark. We're called Timberwind. Pronounced "timber" and "wind"... as in the breeze. We enjoy a good a good nautical theme, but we also know that you're an incredibly creative bunch and would love to learn what our company's name evokes for YOU! We want to be perceived as mature, and reliable, but approachable. That means we're open to new and wild ideas! That said, we also put together a pinterest board so you can get a sense of what has caught our eye (https://pin.it/tq4jro6glvyrlt). It's not meant to be an exhaustive example of what we want, simply a place to start.
I can't wait to see what you produce! Thank you in advance!
- Kirk
Timberwind is a financial investment group led by an entrepreneur (Kirk) who is seeking to acquire a single private business which he will in turn operate on a day-to-day basis.
In order to acquire a business, Kirk reaches out directly to business owners (prospects) via email which in turn drives them to Timberwind's website (http://www.timberwind.co) which further elaborates on his proposition. Kirk will then speak on the phone with prospects (the business owners) who are contemplating the sale of their business in order to achieve 3 goals: 1) establish whether the prospect's business fits Timberwind's investment parameters, 2) help the prospect learn more about Kirk and his goals, and most importantly 3) build trust and a personal relationship so that the owner feels comfortable sharing intimate details about their business.
The individuals he is reaching out to are typically male over the age of 55. They generally operate a single business, are self-made entrepreneurs, and are at a crossroads in their personal and professional lives such that they are contemplating the sale and succession of their business. Their journey to this point has been an emotional one -- complete with big failures and big wins. They are unbridled optimists by nature. Today, the exercise of selling their business is also very emotional. Hence why Timberwind, its messaging, and its logo must convey trust, authority, maturity, and wealth while remaining personal and approachable
The owners we are approaching operate businesses in a variety of industries. They generally will offer services to other businesses (versus selling to consumers) and could be white collar or blue collar businesses. The point here is simply that we are not looking to acquire a company in a specific industry and as such, the logo should not convey that we are looking for one type of business.
Ideally, I would love to see a wordmark that stands out on its own. We are a small company, but I would love for it to be timeless so that in time it may be recognized on its own. Moreover, it should reproduce well if scaled up or down -- and continue to be recognizable if scaled down.
You can find some sample wordmarks here on my pinterest board: https://pin.it/tq4jro6glvyrlt
You'll note on http://www.timberwind.co that our current wordmark is a circle composed of intersecting segments. This technique in woodworking is known as a birdsmouth. It's often used when building masts for sailing ships to reduce their weight and increase their rigidity. We like the message this conveys, though we have found that without explanation it doesn't evoke anything in particular and comes off as generic.
