We feel the first industrial revolution in Great Britain paved the way for modern manufacturing so would like our logo to be heavily inspired by that time period. Other Logos/ brands that we would like to draw inspiration from are:
Currently we have pictured our logo to be of a man (the manufacturer), either looking over (bending over) a machine or cotton crop. Or standing and inspecting a plucked cotton crop in his hands (held towards sky). “the manufacturer” can be either underneath the man or through hips/ waist (look at Johnny Walker logo). There can also be a simple factory in backdrop. The “manufacturer” should be well dressed/ appropriate to era.
**if you feel a women would be better then please do so**
Note: the brands above are all silhouettes and rather simple. We want “the manufacturer” to be the same. This is especially important as the logo will be placed on garments (most likely SINGLE tone/ colour).
The man (manufacturer) could be made more iconic perhaps with a mustache or monocle. There is a high chance he will be placed on shirts etc, (similar to Ralph Lauren) without “the manufacturer” present. (Remember simplicity and silhouettes)
We would like to see a bust variant (logo consists of only upper part of body – this allows for more details). A bust may help differentiate from the above brands.
“the manufacturer” can be of any font and style. Perhaps one of the same era would be more fit. It can even be as lively as the Johnny Walker logo; it might be a good contrast to the rigidity and conservatism typically viewed with manufacturing. Again, if you feel the brand is better represented with a women or a worker etc., please go right ahead.
As always, we feel designers like yourselves will be more aware as to what colours and styles are more suitable. Feel free to use any colours (even combinations) and play with the logo design above.
We look forward to seeing what the community at 99designs will come up with! Good luck!
