Wrongful Conviction Day
Conte para a gente quem é você e quem é seu público alvo
This logo is for a special day of recognition for wrongful convictions. October 2, 2014, will be the first ever "Wrongful Conviction Day". The Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted (AIDWYC) are holding this contest but the logo is not just for our organization. We are hoping that people and organizations around the world (including Schools, Churches, Innocence Projects, other non-profit organizations and social justice minded individuals) will sign on, organize events and draw attention to the fact that criminal justice systems are not perfect and that people make mistakes. Around the world, innocent people go to prison every day and we hope this day will bring recognition to the problem and encourage people to work together to find solutions.

In Canada, more than 70 people have been exonerated of serious crimes they did not do. In the United States almost 1400 wrongful convictions have been recognized by the courts. We have no idea, in either country, how many innocent people have spent time in prison for things they did not do. Innocent people have even been put to death! Despite all of these previous miscarriages of justice, many people do not know that criminal justice systems make mistakes.
We want a logo that will help us draw attention to these terrible injustices. We want something that will become recognizable around the world. We want something that will appeal to people, not just in North America but also internationally. When many people think of "justice" certain images come to mind - for instance the scales of justice, "Lady Justice", a blindfold, columns, books, a gavel, etc. We want something that represents the INJUSTICE of a wrongful conviction. We want to illustrate with our logo how WRONG a wrongful conviction is.
