Make the site as easy to use as possible. The whole site is to be designed, and oriented around two actions the visitors must do 1. contact/enquire on products, either through our phone number or contact form. Thus the phone number and enquiry form link must be prominent and attract the attention of the visitor. 2. Add products to cart and check out. Therefore they must be able to find the products as easy as possible, add them to the cart and check out.
Therefore we want the design to portray this, make it very obvious where to click. Use colors that are not seen in nature to direct people where we want them to look, e.g. orange or purple.
The rest of the color scheme doesn't have to be the same as the existing site, nor the actual logo.
Place our phone number (freephone and international) and enquiry form link at the top of every page. Use a photo of a lady looking at the number. There will also be a Live Chat link.
There will be a drop down box for different currencies and languages, placed in the template.
It needs to flow and come together in a seamless way, I don't want it to look bitsy.
The shopping cart needs to have a login button, which will change to My Account (when logged in), it doesn't have to be in the main nav, it could be up the top right. It will also have the button Cart, just the like the existing site has now.
We want to display Money Back Guarantee, Free Shipping to the UK, Worldwide Shipping, we want it fairly prominent, but don't want it to look squashed, and not to make the pages crowded. It could just be on the homepage, but if possible on every page.
In the bottom nav, we want to keep the SSL Secured GlobalSign image, like on the existing design. It could be in greyscale though.
Attached images - I have included some attached images. This was just me giving an example of how the site could look, and some of the new functionality, and possibly colors (particularly the orange for making the desired actions more prominent).
In the template the shopping cart buttons have been left out, Cart (#) and Login (My Account - when logged in). I don't mind if they are in the top header or in the main nav (like existing site), the same for the Language and Currency drop down boxes. In the sample homepage I sent, the header currently has too much white space.
Creative - These layouts are not designed in stone, so feel free to use your creative skills as much as you wish. We want some creative designers to think of the best and easiest ways for the visitors to order and enquire on products. These attachments were just some ideas that we had, and our thoughts on them. Any new, creative ideas will be given extra credit. We just want to facilitate the processes, and make it as intuitive as possible for the visitor to find what they are looking for and get them to order or enquire on the product.
Looking for something clean, clear, tidy and professional.
Home - There will be a rollover effect from the left hand navigation, the rollover effect will display the sub-categories of each main product category, with a small image, link and brief description.
Home w/rollover - this is an idea of the rollover effect for a visitors rolls over the left nav. It would then show all the sub-categories of that product category.
Category - this design was quite basic, and I expect something a lot more impressive than this. All I have really done here is tidy up the design of the existing site. Also it would be nice to see some filters below the left hand navigation, just to see what they would look like. We may or may not want them.
Contact Form - we want the form to be obvious and very easy to what is required. We also want it to look exciting, almost like if you complete this form great things will happen, to make them want to complete it.
Shopping cart - similar to contact form, i.e. make it exciting for them to fill in, proceed and order. We also want the 4 step process at the top, to make it look really easy to complete the steps.
Main nav - this will function the same way as the current site, with the products drop down rollover effect. A new design will need to be done for the drop down rollover. There should be a nicely designed breadcrumb nav throughout the site also.
The main nav will be: Home, Products, News, Support, Applications, About Us, Contact Us, Product Search. Blog is in some of the nav on the designs, but we will not have a blog for the time being so don't worry about that.
More Pages - the winner will also receive more work to design some additional pages of the site.
PFA homepage-updated-2.jpg. The main changes here are that we have removed the English/Translation drop down tool. We have confirmed the cart and login buttons will be in the main nav. The other header content still has some creative options - free phone, intl phone, live help and enquiry form. The Free Delivery, International Shipping and Guarantee are now part of the footer. We have also added to the footer - product links, more prominent contact info, Accepted forms of payment (greyscale might be nice here), and the logo (in a smaller size).
