I changed the letters \"D\" and \"J\" as well as the ampersand to give a more readable fluidity. I also changed the letter \"S\" in standing to have a slightly more ornate appearance. I repositioned the try to give a rectangular appearance to the design as a whole. I then redrew the character mark as a more illustrative vector. The face just wasn't working on a dark background as an inverse so I added an oval and a stroke to that version. For the slogan, I created text on a path then drew a banner around it.")

I created a basic stacked logo, and then I used the letter forms to create the letter marks. (Modified from original with no cutout in the letter \"A\"). Then I created the barbed rake (with leaves and wire adornments to give it a more illustrative feel), as noted in the brief.
The combination mark uses all the elements and a directional sign with the horizontal word mark cut out of the arrow shapes.")

I went to vintage circus posters for inspirations, but started with the illustration of a girl in a graduation cap with a wide eyed startled expression at the center of attention of a number of photographers. I added some dollar bills hastily floating mid air, and the banner and back ground. I worked with a limited palette to give the colors and textures that old ink printed feel.")

However I didn't like how the piano cropped out. The sofa and background were indeed distracting, so I replaced the floor, wall and piano and added the picture frame and studio mic to further \"bring home\" the idea of HOME recording.
For the type, I used a classy, art deco, geometric font for the name and sub-title. In order to keep \"singer-songwriter\" title together as one word, I settled on a highly condensed, light display font that is sort of a stripped down version of a grotesk font. I thought it worked not only better as a hyphenated word, but also because singer-songwriters are often writing in a stripped-down and condensed style.

I used retro display fonts for the type and also created a vintage flag/banner around the bottom. I vectorized a creative commons royalty free image of a dog in a hat to mimic similar ads of the 50's that featured stylized gentlemen instead. The dashed stroke as well as the overall distress add a worn feel faded blue shade allude to casual, durable, & American sensibilities.")
