It allowed me to be really creative and think of many ideas. This went through many iterations from symbolic ideas to literal representation with complexity. It wasn’t easy at all but it was definitely worth the time and effort as I’ve learned a few things to help me become a better designer.
After having many the ideas (both good and bad), we ended up deciding on this concept of constructing (building) a clock in the shape of an hour glass where each piece would fall into place to mimic the flow of sand in an hour glass. The final artwork is the interpretation for the concept of “Clock Building, Not Time Telling”.")

The main concept for this artwork is a woman seeking comfort with a cocktail drink - something she can spend time with - her “Best Friend”. I’ve edited the stock artwork to fit the concept for the song.
I’ve used clean typography and bold colours which is very fitting for the target audience. I’ve included several colour variations and placed them on mockups to get an idea of what the concept will look like when used.")

I kept the typography simple and clean. I’ve used a triadic colour scheme. I’ve used blue from their branding and included the lime green and a bit of orangey/red. The bold colours work really well with the dark background.")

The addition of the colour is used to highlight some elements in order to create balance in the colour scheme. However, the green is still used predominantly. This colour scheme is used throughout the design of the website to establish the identity of the company to their target audience.
Typography - I have used a slab serif font which are mainly used for headings and a sans serif font for the rest of the text. I have used different font sizes and colours for the text to distinguish the hierarchy of readability. This makes it easy for visitors to digest the information.
Imagery - I have used stock images to showcase the design but these are not final. I’ve only specified the stock images on areas of the website that will be built in a static format. I have left out the ones that will be used for the articles as these will change depending on the posts.")

I have added their red colour and used it to highlight links and CTA elements.
Typography - I have used a serif font which are mainly used for headings and a sans serif font for the rest of the text. I have used different font sizes and colours for the text to distinguish the hierarchy of readability. This makes it easy for visitors to digest the information. The typography used are consistent throughout.
Imagery - I have used several stock images to add visuals to the design as these draw visitor’s attention. I’ve also used them for backgrounds which adds texture and reduces oversimplification.
Iconography - I have used a minimalistic approach for the icons. I have used lined style icons to improve visual interest and grab the visitors attention to key written information.")

I have included the use of black and white to give it a clean look. This helps strengthen the business’ brand and showcases a consistent design approach.
I have used diagonal lines to give it an edgy look. The images are in black and white but I also highlighted the red areas which adds colour to the images. This keep the design consistent and are in line with the brand. Some parts have background/pattern that are quite opaque which add textures to the images - specifically the logo and meat image.")

The design contains the logo and text ‘Restaurant & Bar’. It’s on a background with patterns to add texture but opaque enough so it doesn’t get too distracting. It has a striking border with shapes and colours to hold and present the elements together.")

I’m Xtian (pronounced as “Christian”) Villaflor – a Freelance Visual Designer based in London, UK. I work on projects in Graphic Design, Web Design and Digital Marketing.
I have created designs for both businesses and charities from an eclectic and wide variety of industries including Construction, Food, Education, eCommerce and Health & Wellness. This enabled me to gain a more in-depth understanding of the general user needs. I find the whole process of any design project very fulfilling.
